Injection Molding

Lens Coil Assembly

The originally designed lens and coil contained two separate items with the air coil slipping over plastic fingers to hold the coil in place for the assembly.  The coil was used in an RFID reader circuit and had a tight inductance tolerance design. The read depth tolerance was critical to the operation of the RFID circuit.  The past assembly process of the air coil being installed onto the lens fingers would change the designed inductance and reduced the read depth.

APlus reviewed the current manufacturing process and then proposed redesigning the lens to incorporate a bobbin into the plastic and then winding the coil directly onto the lens. By implementing this solution the customer was able to cut out one part number, keep a tighter inductance tolerance (3%) and stabilized the read depth. This solution lowered the production cost and performed better than the design performance.
